About Digital Smile Design in Kothrud
Most patients considering a smile makeover have the same question: what if I don't like the result? Digital Smile Design (DSD) exists to remove that uncertainty entirely — not through guesswork, but through a structured, evidence-based planning protocol used in cosmetic and restorative dentistry.
At Aesthedent, the process begins with high-resolution facial and intraoral photography, video analysis of your natural smile and speech patterns, and 3D intraoral scanning. This data is mapped against established facial esthetic parameters — your midline, smile line, lip dynamics, and gingival architecture — to build a precise digital blueprint of your new smile, calibrated to your face rather than a generic template.
From this blueprint, we fabricate a physical mock-up you can wear and evaluate in function: speaking, smiling, biting, looking in the mirror — all before a single tooth is prepared or any permanent restoration is placed. This step lets both you and your dentist assess esthetics, phonetics, and occlusion in real time, and correct anything digitally rather than irreversibly.
The result: a smile that's biomechanically and esthetically integrated with your natural anatomy — one you've already seen, tried on, and approved, long before it becomes permanent.
Smile design work here is planned by Dr. Sahil Wathodkar, BDS, MDS (Prosthodontics), Bharati Vidyapeeth, Pune, whose specialist training covers exactly this: how replacement teeth should be shaped, proportioned and arranged. Cosmetic work draws patients from further afield than routine treatment — Deccan and Erandwane in our case — because it is elective and people choose deliberately.
What digital smile design does for you
- The result is agreed before any irreversible work begins
- Designed against your midline, smile line, lip dynamics and gingival architecture
- Video analysis captures how your smile actually moves, not how it poses
- A physical mock-up you can wear, speak with and evaluate in function
- Esthetics, phonetics and occlusion assessed in real time, not after fitting
- Corrections are digital and free at this stage, irreversible and costly after it
Why patients choose us for this treatment
Calibrated to your face, not a template
Facial esthetic parameters are measured and the design is built against them. A set of teeth that looks correct in isolation can look obviously wrong in a face.
Tested in function, not just on screen
The mock-up is evaluated while you speak, smile and bite — phonetics and occlusion, not only appearance. Plenty of designs look right and sound wrong.
Planned by a prosthodontist
Dr. Sahil Wathodkar's MDS training is precisely this discipline: how replacement teeth should be shaped, proportioned and arranged so they work as well as they look.
We will tell you when to do less
The design shows how far back treatment realistically needs to go, which is often fewer teeth than people expect. Not every case needs veneers on every tooth.
What to expect, step by step
Photography, video and 3D scanning
High-resolution facial and intraoral photography, video analysis of your natural smile and speech, and a 3D intraoral scan. No impression trays.
Facial analysis
The data is mapped against established esthetic parameters — midline, smile line, lip dynamics and gingival architecture.
The digital blueprint
A precise design calibrated to your face, shown to you on screen. Your opinion at this stage carries the same weight as ours.
The physical mock-up
The blueprint transferred into your mouth in temporary material, without preparing a single tooth. Wear it, speak with it, take it home.
Assess and correct digitally
Esthetics, phonetics and occlusion evaluated in function. Anything that is not right is corrected in the design rather than in your teeth.
Then, the treatment itself
Whatever the approved plan requires — veneers, crowns, bonding or alignment first — executed against a result you have already seen and approved.
Common questions
Is Digital Smile Design a treatment?
No, it is a planning method. It determines what the final result should look like, and the treatment that follows might be veneers, crowns, bonding, orthodontics or a combination. Planning it first is what stops the result being a surprise.
What is the mock-up?
The approved design placed in your mouth in a temporary material, without cutting your teeth. You can see it, speak with it and take it home for a day. It is the difference between imagining a result and looking at one.
Can I change my mind about the design?
That is the entire purpose of the process. Changes at the design and mock-up stage cost time only. Changes after teeth have been prepared are expensive and sometimes not fully reversible, which is why we front-load the decisions.
Will my teeth look fake?
Only if they are designed that way. Uniform, very white, identically shaped teeth are what read as artificial. Designing against your facial proportions and leaving natural variation is what avoids it - and you approve the look before anything is made.
Does any part of it hurt?
The planning does not. Photographs, scanning and the mock-up are all non-invasive and involve no anaesthetic. Any discomfort belongs to the treatment that follows, and we will explain that separately once the plan is agreed.
Do I need to have every tooth done?
Usually not. The design shows how far back the treatment realistically needs to go for the result to look even, which is often fewer teeth than people expect. If we think you are proposing more work than you need, we will say so.
What does Digital Smile Design cost in Pune?
The planning and the treatment that follows are costed separately, because the treatment varies enormously depending on what the design calls for. You get both figures before committing to anything beyond the initial consultation.
